Final Speaking Exam Guidelines, Spring 2012
Academic English - 1A
Final Speaking Test Guidelines Spring
2012
Chiun(June)Kim
The
speaking test portion of the Final Examination will consist of a video being submitted
in a CD or a USB file due either Wednesday or Thursday,
June 13th or 14th by 5:00pm depending on your Final Exam speaking date. You will make a short
video with your group using Vocabulary, Grammar, and Function Expressions from
the NorthStar Listening & Speaking 2 textbook from units
7-10.
You
can have a group of 3-4 students but no more than 4 students per group. Your
script must be typed with the Vocabulary,
Grammar, and Functions underlined. Be creative, use props, and seek help
of any kind! This is the time to show off your creativity and to have some fun!
As
a group, you can make a video on the following topics or anything related to
the topics we’ve covered during the latter half of the semester. The video must
be no shorter than 5 minutes and not
longer than 10 minutes. Some
suggested ideas are to make a commercial, a Public Service Announcement (PSA),
or a short skit.
1.
Good-Mood Foods
2.
An Ice Place to Stay3. Staying Healthy
4. Endangered Languages
Your
video must include:
8
Vocabulary Words (Units 7-10)8 Grammar Points (Units 7-10)
5 Function Expressions (Units 7-10)
Your video will
be graded on the following criteria:
·
Creativity
(Originality
or funny) (5 points): Is your idea creative or something that
catches the audience attention? Is it funny?
·
Quality (Video and Audio) (5 points): make sure there
is enough light and the picture is clear. If you are taping in noisy public
places, make sure I can still hear your voices.
·
Grammar
(5 points): Did you use the
required number of grammar? Were they used correctly?
·
Vocabulary
(5 points): Did you use
the required number of vocabulary? Were they used correctly?
·
Function
Expressions (5 points): Did
you use the required number of function expressions? Were they used correctly?
·
Fluency
(5 points): Can I
understand your dialogue? Were there awkward pauses? Was the conversation fluid
and natural?
Each
Group member will be INDIVIDUALLY scored based on their performance so it is
important that each person has equal opportunity to perform. Your score will be worth 12% of your
final grade. If you decide to
submit a USB, please clean up and remove all your files. Make sure that it does
not contain viruses. If your USB contains a virus, you will
automatically lose 5 points.
You’ll
submit your CD/USB to me no later than Thursday,
June 14th, by 5:00 P.M.! Your CD must be labeled with group members’ names, student ID, along with
one contact email address and phone number.
NO LATE FINALS WILL BE
ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE AND TIME!
So, please plan ahead and allow extra time for anticipated technical
difficulties and situations that may arise.
Good
Luck!!!!
